Dr. Bindman is a Professor of Medicine, Epidemiology & Biostatistics, and a core faculty member within the Philip R. Lee Institute for Health Policy Studies at the University of California, San Francisco. He is a graduate of Harvard College and the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine. He has a long-standing interest in health policy informed by his many years as primary care physician at Zuckerberg San Francisco General and through several roles he has played within the federal government. He was a health policy fellow on the staff of the US House Energy and Commerce Committee where he contributed to the drafting of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). He worked for several years to implement the ACA as a senior adviser within the US Department of Health and Human Services and as the Director of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. He currently serves as the co-editor in chief of the journal, Health Services Research. Dr. Bindman was elected to the National Academy of Medicine in 2015.
