Melanie Molina, MD

Dr. Molina is an emergency physician working to improve comprehensive emergency care for vulnerable populations. She graduated summa cum laude from The University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Bachelor of Arts in Hispanic Studies. Dr. Molina’s own experiences overcoming childhood adversity and working with marginalized populations sparked her desire to mitigate health disparities and led her to pursue a medical degree at Harvard Medical School. During medical school, she realized the importance of the emergency department as a safety-net health care provider for patients with high rates of social needs. As a result, while training at the Harvard Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency program, she focused her research on identifying and addressing social needs within the emergency department. During residency, Dr. Molina also chaired the Social Emergency Medicine Interest Academy, leading the design and implementation of health equity curriculum aimed at raising awareness of race- and gender-based inequities in both physician and patient experiences. As a current scholar in the National Clinician Scholars Program at the University of California, San Francisco, she is completing advanced coursework in epidemiology and biostatistics, while also investigating how to leverage technology to integrate social needs screening and linkage into emergency care.
