Dr. Kevin McCawley is a Family Medicine physician dedicated to guiding artificial intelligence and policy toward more equitable, community-centered primary care. His work bridges clinical practice, data science, and systems design to ensure emerging technologies deepen—rather than diminish—human connection in medicine. Originally from Nebraska, he earned his B.S. with honors from Arizona State University and his M.D. from the University of Michigan Medical School, where he was active in the medical arts community, using photography and storytelling to explore themes of justice and inequity. During residency at the University of Washington, Dr. McCawley founded Maternal Access to Medical AI (MAMA), a research initiative studying how generative AI can expand access to prenatal care, particularly in rural and underserved communities. Previously, he worked in coastal Kenya with the Climate, Heat, and Maternal and Neonatal Health in Africa (CHAMNHA) consortium, designing community-based storytelling interventions to promote climate resilience among pregnant and breastfeeding women in rural communities. While there, he pursued an M.B.A. to better understand how economic systems shape health outcomes and inform clinical and policy decision-making.

Research Interests: Crafting policies, technologies, research methodologies to gracefully, equitably implement artificial intelligence into primary health care (à la Alma-Ata).
