Christine Dehlendorf, MD, MAS, is the faculty lead for Family Medicine in the National Clinician Scholars Program, where she supports family medicine fellows in their research, clinical, and other professional activities. She is a Professor and Vice Chair for Research in the Department of Family and Community Medicine, with additional appointments in the Departments of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences and Epidemiology and Biostatistics. She founded and directs the Person-Centered Reproductive Health Program, which aims to advance reproductive autonomy and well-being by conducting research and designing programs that center people’s experiences and preferences for sexual and reproductive health and health care, guided by an attention to the intersecting oppressions and structural injustices that impact people’s lives and health. She has led work to define and implement patient-centered contraceptive counseling, including the development of performance measures focused on patient experience and the creation and testing of MyBirthControl, a contraceptive digital support tool designed to support quality contraceptive decision making. She also is a faculty member in the Advanced Training in Clinical Research program, including directing the course Social Determinants of Health and Health Disparities: What Every Researcher Needs to Know. Her work was honored with the Society of Family Planning’s Beacon of Science Award in 2022 and she was elected to the National Academy of Medicine in 2025. She also provides primary care and reproductive health care at the Family Health Center at San Francisco General Hospital and Planned Parenthood.
