How does the VA partnership work?
The Department of Veterans Affairs is a strong community partner for the NCSP and supports a number of VA NCSP fellows each year. The NCSP emphasizes the importance of community health, consistent with VA's goals to optimize the health of the veteran and the VA community and to contribute to the health of the nation. The VA NCSP fellows have a commitment to conducting research addressing health and policy issues relevant to veterans and reflecting priority areas in the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Our VA Scholars have opportunities for conducting clinical work and research and participating in policy experiences within the Department of Veterans Affairs as part of their fellowship. How is the COVID pandemic changing NCSP at UCSF?
UCSF is well positioned to continue functioning as an educational institution, a research organization, and a leader in health and health care despite the ongoing pandemic. At this time, educational programming is continuing online and clinical work is, wherever possible, continuing using a telehealth model. Every effort is being made to ensure that the NCSP experience emerges from the pandemic with lessons learned that will enhance the program in the future.
Specific changes to programming are being made in real-time to accommodate current recommendations, but rest assured that the program will continue. There has never been a better time to be training our next generation of leaders.
