How do you apply for the National Clinician Scholars Program?
Applications for all NCSP sites are accepted centrally at the NCSP site. Applicants may choose to apply to one site or multiple sites.
We seek applicants who have:
- Demonstrated interest in improving health or the healthcare system
- Exhibited leadership capabilities
- Demonstrated ability to develop new ideas and to implement them
- Ability to interact and communicate effectively with others
- A record of consistent accomplishment of project activities
- Previous research experience, published or unpublished
- Interest in, and/or experience with, community organizations
Do NCSP Scholars receive a stipend?
All NCSP Scholars receive an annual stipend. The table below lists the expected minimum stipend amounts for UCSF Scholars based on institutional requirements.

Can I get a Master’s degree?
Yes, National Clinician Scholars at UCSF are eligible to participate in the program leading to a Master’s of Advanced Studies in Clinical Research.
Scholars will work with their Program Directors to establish a customized course of formal study. Depending on previous experience, many Scholars choose not to participate in the Master’s program but to engage in other formal coursework, such as one of the Certificate Programs.
After NCSP, where do scholars take jobs?
Graduating Scholars are prepared in their training to apply for jobs in academia, health care, government, professional organizations, non-profit community partners, and private industry.
Is there a single application process for multiple sites?
There is a central application process for all of the NCSP sites. Applicants are invited to indicate which sites they are interested in applying to. Please visit the national website for important application key dates.
Does UCSF have campus housing?
